Richard Robinson 1709 -1794

He did much for the city of Armagh and many fine buildings remain today as a result of his efforts. These include rebuilding the Archbishops house, the magnificent Archbishops Palace. The building of the County Infirmary was started by him, Armagh Public Library. He rebuilt the Armagh Royal School. He built the army barracks, built an obelisk in memory of his friend the Duke of Northumberland an extensive renovation  of St Patrick's Cathedral and he built the Observatory. He is buried in St Patrick’s C of I Cathedral Armagh. The plaque to Robinson is on the right hand wall of the cathedral as you enter.
