Patrick Cotter 1761-1806

Born in Kinsale, County Cork. Also went under the name of O’Brien. He earned his living as an attraction in the fairgrounds of England. He was anxious that his remains would stayed untouched after death, so much so that they remained hidden for almost 100 years. They were found in 1906, re-interred, and re-interred again in 1973. They are now in the crypt of  St Joseph’s Chapel Bristol, England. His coffin plate reads – Patrick Cotter O’Brien of Kinsale Ireland whose stature was 8 feet 4 inches died Sep 8th 1806 aged 46 years. The inches had been changed from 1 to 4. The plate is kept in St Mary’s-on-the-Quay in Bristol.
