Noel Browne 1915-1997

Born in Waterford. He became Minister for Health in the Clann na Poblachta government in 1948. He fell foul of the Catholic church with the introduction of his Mother and Child scheme and was forced to resign. He later ran and was elected to the Dail as an Independent and then as a Fianna Fail member. He subsequently joined the Labour Party and then  helped form the Socialist Labour Party. His autobiography Against the Tide was a huge success. He was buried near his holiday home in Connemara.
