Martin Sheridan 1881-1918

Born in Bohola, Mayo. Won nine Olympic medals (5 gold, three silver and a bronze). Died in a New York hospital and buried in Section 45, Roadside, Calvary Cemetery, New York. A Celtic cross over his grave has the following - Martin J. Sheridan, an intrepid American, an ardent lover of his motherland, a peerless athlete, devoted to the institutions of his country, and to the ideals and aspirations of his race.
