Sir Edward Harland 1831-1895

Born in Scarborough. He moved to Belfast in 1854 to work as General Manager in a shipyard owned by Robert Hickson. He soon bought out Hickson and in 1861 he employed Gustav Wolff as a personal assistant. The following year Wolff was a full partner and the shipyard changed its name. Harland was Mayor of Belfast twice and served as an MP from 1887-1895. He is buried in Belfast.
