Harry Clarke 1889-1931

Born in Dublin, he was Irelandís premier stained glass artist. Multiple examples of his work can be found in the Catholic church in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan; Oblate Fathers Chapel Raheny, Dublin; Catholic church, Ballinrobe, County Mayo; Basilica at Lough Derg; Jesuit Retreat House, Rathfarnham, Dublin. His Geneva window is in the Wolfsonian Foundation in Miami. Clarke also illustrated many books.

He died at Coire, Switzerland on his way back to Dublin. He was buried at his own request in the church graveyard in Coire. As he was not a Swiss national the simple grave erected by his wife only survived fifteen years. The headstone was destroyed. A recent biography (August 2005) of the artist presented on TG4 shows the grave.
