Joseph Tomelty 1911-1995

Born in Portaferry, County Down. He was a co-founder of the Ulster Group Theatre and was its manager until 1951. His plays and novels include Red is the Port Light, The Apprentice, Barnum Was Right, Right Again Barnum, The End House, All Soulsí Night and Is the Priest at Home? He was also a well-known actor in both television and film. He wrote and acted in the radio serial The McCooeys. A serious car crash in 1951 put a premature end to his writings. He is buried in County Down.
