Charles Read 1841-1878

Born in Kilsella House, near Sligo. He ran a business for a while in Rathfriland, County Down and after it failed he went to work in a publishing house in London. He wrote two novels which were quite popular Aileen Aroon and Savourneen Dheelish. He is best remembered for The Cabinet of Irish Literature. T.P. OíConnor edited the fourth and final volume after Readís death. He is buried in London.
