Aodhagán Ó Rathaille c. 1670-c. 1728

orathaille.jpg (36388 bytes)

Born in the Sliabh Luachra district of County Kerry. After the Treaty of Limerick many Gaelic chiefs left Ireland and the new Anglo Irish who replaced them had little in common with the wandering poets. Ó Rathaille found some response still in Munster but lived his later life in poverty. His poems though were widely distributed and kept alive “the noble qualities of Ireland’s chieftains and poets”. He was one of the Four Kerry Poets. He is buried in Killarney.

Further information, location and directions to the grave are to be found in "The End - An Illustrated Guide to the Graves of Irish Writers".  Click here to order a copy of this book
