John Francis O’Donnell 1837-1874

Born in Limerick. He worked as a journalist on many papers in both Ireland and England. He was one of the most prominent Irish poets of the latter half of the 19th century, particularly noted for his national poems. His works include the poems On the Rampart, The Question, The Emerald Wreath: A Treasury of Stories, Legends, &c and Memoirs of the Irish Franciscans. His novels include Sadleir the Banker or the Laceys of Rathcore. He is buried in London.
