Fitz-James O’Brien 1828-1862

Born in County Cork. After the death of his father, the family moved to Limerick. He wrote poetry and his first poem appeared in the Nation. At the age of 21 he moved to London. He wrote a large number of poems, stories and articles which obrien fitzjames2.jpg (94522 bytes)appeared in English, Scottish and Irish periodicals. After he squandered his fortune he emigrated to America where he continued to write. His reputation is based on a number of fantastic tales most notably The Diamond Lens, What Was It? and The Wondersmith. He is buried in New York. Photos by Jeffrey I Richman
