Patrick O’Brian 1914-2000

His real name was Richard Russ and he was born in Chalfont St Peter in Buckinghamshire. He was the author of over 30 books. He is best known for the Aubrey Maturin series of novels. He encouraged the world to think that he was Irish and it was appropriate that he at least died in Ireland, in a Dublin hotel.

He was awarded the CBE in 1995. He is buried in Collioure, France.

Further information, location and directions to the grave are to be found in "The End - An Illustrated Guide to the Graves of Irish Writers".  Click here to order a copy of this book
