
William Mulready 1786-1863
Born in Ennis, County Clare. He left Ireland
when he was six years old and rarely returned. A painter, who was best known for
his genre painting. His drawings, particularly of nudes, were remarkable. The
inscription on his very elaborate tomb reads “Artrist, Royal Academician, Knight
of the Legion of Honour, born at Innes, Ireland, 1786, died in London 1863.”
Each column has at its base a palette, writing material and other
tools
of his trade. Around the monument are figures in light relief.
