Seán MacBride 1904-1988

Son of Maud Gonne and Major John MacBride who was executed in 1916. He was educated in France and his first language was French. He accompanied the Treaty delegation to London in 1921 and was later Chief of Staff of the I.R.A. in the late twenties. He founded Clann na Poblachta, was a founder member of Amnesty International, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 1974, the Lenin Peace prize in 1977 and the Dag Hammarsksjoeld Prize for International Solidarity. He is buried in Dublin.
