Edward Martyn 1859-1924

 Born in Tulira, County Galway. He was one of the founders of the Irish Literary Theatre and his plays were some of the earliest produced there. He was one of the founders of the Feis Ceoil and he also established the Palestrina Choir. His works include The Heather Field, Maeve, The Tale of a Town and The Dream Physician. He left instructions in his will that his body was to be given to Cecilia Street Medical School for dissection and the remains to be buried with paupers. The funeral took place a few weeks after his death and along with six other bodies he was laid to rest in the General Poor Ground in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin. The Palestrina Choir sang the Benedictus at the interment. The grave is unmarked.
