Dorothy MacArdle 1889-1958

Born in Dundalk. She worked as a teacher. Although she came from a unionist background she became involved with Maud Gonne and Sinn Féin. She took the anti-Treaty side and spent time in prison. She wrote novels, plays for children and history books. Her works include The Irish Republic, Tragedies of Kerry 1922-23, Uneasy Freehold and The Uninvited. The latter two novels were made into films. She is buried in Dublin.
