Sir Shane Leslie 1885-1971

Born in Glaslough, County Monaghan. He was educated at Eton, Paris and Cambridge. In 1908 he met Tolstoy and described him as having the greatest influence on his life. He wrote poetry, prose, religious and philosophical studies and biographies. Pope Pius XI made him a Privy Chamberlain. His works include The End of a Chapter, The Celt and the World, The Skull of Swift, Doomsland, The Cuckoo Clock and Other Poems, Long Shadows and Ghost Book. He lived mostly in England. He is buried in County Monaghan.
