John B(rendan) Keane 1928-2002

Born in Listowel, County Kerry. He spent most of his life in his native town where he ran a pub. He was an extremely popular figure throughout Ireland. His many plays include Sive, Many Young Men of Twenty, The Year of the Hiker, Big Maggie and The Field which was made into a successful film. He also wrote novels, short stories and other prose material including The Contractors, Durango and The Bodhrán Makers. He is buried in Listowel.
