Denis Johnston 1901-1984

Born in Dublin. He was called to the Bar in 1926 and worked as a barrister. His involvement with the theatre led to him becoming Director of the Gate for a few years and then in 1935 he went to work as a drama producer for the BBC. He worked as a war correspondent and after the war he went to America. His works include The Old Lady says No, The Moon in the Yellow River, A Bride for the Unicorn, Storm Song, The Golden Cuckoo and Nine Rivers from Jordan. He was the father of the writer, Jennifer Johnston. He is buried in Dublin.
