Paddy Heeney 1882-1911

He wrote the music for The Soldiers Song. He is buried in Drumcondra but his grave is unknown. There is a plaque on the wall with the following inscription:

ÓGLÁIGH NA HÉIREANN

WE’LL SING A SONG A SOLDIERS SONG

SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF

PATRICK HEENEY

WHO DIED, 13 JUNE 1911 AGED 29 YEARS

AND IS BURIED IN THIS CHURCHYARD.

HE COMPOSED THE MUSIC OF THE SOLDIERS SONG

IN 1907 THAT BECAME IRELANDS NATIONAL ANTHEM

THE POEM WAS WRITTEN BY HIS FRIEND
