F.R. (Fred) Higgins 1896-1941

Born in Foxford, County Mayo. For most of his life he wrote and edited magazines. In his later years he became Managing Director of the Abbey Theatre. Yeats had considered him the finest of the younger Irish poets. His works include Island Blood, Salt Air, The Dark Breed, Arable Holdings and The Gap of Brightness. He is buried in County Meath.
