Richard Hayward 1898-1964

Born in Belfast. He was a prolific writer on Ireland. His works include Where The River Shannon Flows, In the Kingdom Of Kerry, The Corrib Country, Ulster Songs and Ballads, In Praise of Ulster, Ulster and the City of Belfast, Connacht and the City of Galway and Munster and the City of Cork. In the last book there is a reference to his visiting the grave of Donn Byrne (q.v.) who died in a car accident. Shortly after this book was finished Hayward himself died in a car crash. Richard Hayward was one of the authors who used to “accompany” us on our holidays. He was a particular favourite of my mother who had collected almost all his books. His remains were cremated at Roselawn Crematorium, Belfast.
