Thomas Grubb 1800-1878

Born in Kilkenny. He was an optician who established a firm that made telescopes for observatories throughout the world. Thomas helped the Earl of Rosse build his world famous telescope at Birr and the firm also made telescopes for observatories in Melbourne 1896, Vienna 1880, and other places including Madrid and Mecca. A descendant Howard Grubb, joined forces with a compatriot, Charles Parsons and formed a firm that supplied the telescope to La Palma in the Canary Islands. He is buried in Dublin.
