Rosa Mulholland Gilbert 1841-1921

Born in Belfast. She was encouraged to write by Charles Dickens who published her early stories in the periodical Household Words. She was a prolific writer who achieved great popularity. Her works include The Daughter in Possession, A Fair Emigrant, The Wild Birds of Killeevy and Marcella Grace. Her poetry was published in three volumes. She is buried with her husband Sir John Gilbert in Dublin.
