Lord Edward Fitzgerald 1763-1798

Born in Leinster House, Dublin. He was the son of the Earl of Kildare. He served in the British army before he served as MP for Athy in 1783. He rejoined the army and married in 1792. He joined the United Irishmen in 1796. He was head of the Military Committee in 1798 but was betrayed. During the struggle he killed an officer and was himself wounded by Major Charles Sirr. He was imprisoned in Newgate prison where he died of his wounds. He was buried at night in the vaults of St. Werburghs.
