Mrs Mary Delany 1700-1788

delany mrs.jpg (117405 bytes)

Born in Coulston, Wiltshire. She was a letter writer and diarist. She lived in Dublin 1731-1733 and her diary gives a vivid picture of the social scene in 18th century Dublin. After the death of her first husband she married Dr Patrick Delany (see next entry) in 1743 and lived in Dublin until his death in 1768. She then returned to London where she died some years later. Her will stated that as little as possible should be spent on her burial. She is buried in London.

Further information, location and directions to the grave are to be found in "The End - An Illustrated Guide to the Graves of Irish Writers".  Click here to order a copy of this book
