Monsignor Pádraig De Brún, 1889-1960

Born in Grangemockler, County Tipperary. He was ordained in 1913. He was Professor of Mathematics at Maynooth, then President of University College Galway and Vice-Chancellor of The National University of Ireland. He is best known for his translations of the classics into Irish. These include Antigone, Oedipus Rex, Athalie, Plutarch’s Lives, The Divine Comedy – The debrun.jpg (29750 bytes)Inferno, as well as Homer’s Odyssey using Irish rhythms. He is buried in Dublin.
