Edward Duffy 1840-1868

Born at Ballaghadereen, County Mayo. He was principal organiser of the Fenians in Connaught and was imprisoned on numerous occasions. In his speech from the dock in 1867 he criticised James Stephens (28) for his inaction. O’Donovan Rossa (14) was a fellow prisoner in Millbank Prison and wrote a poem for him. He died in prison and his remains were brought to Dublin from Millbank.
