Winifred Carney 1887-1943

Born in Bangor, County Down. She was active in the Gaelic League, the Suffragettes movement and the socialist movement. She became secretary to James Connolly and was with him in the GPO. She was imprisoned and later stood for Sinn Fein. She married, in 1928, George McBride, a Unionist and former UVF man and lost whatever support she had. She is buried in Belfast.
