Born Reginald Evelyn Peter Southouse-Cheyney. All the Irish sources I consulted stated he was born in County Clare. The non-Irish sources stated he was born in London. A colleague of mine searched the birth records for County Clare but there was no Southouse-Cheyney-Chesney for that period. However it is possible that the birth was not registered.

Southouse-Cheyney served in the First World War and was severely wounded. After that he worked as a journalist and ran a detective agency. His first book This Man is Dangerous was an immediate bestseller. He wrote over 50 crime novels and sold millions of copies. Other works include Calling Mr Callaghan, Dark Duet, Dark Wanton, Lady Behave, Sorry You’ve Been Troubled, Dangerous Curves, Urgent Hangman and Ladies Won’t Wait. He is buried in London.

Further information and directions to the grave are to be found in "The End - An Illustrated Guide to the Graves of Irish Writers".  Click here to order a copy of this book
