  Ethna Carbery 1866-1902

Born Anna Johnston in Ballymena, County Antrim. She founded the Shan Van Vocht periodical with Alice Milligan. She wrote many poems, stories and ballads. She married Seamus MacManus in 1901. Her works include The Four Winds of Eirinn, The Passionate Hearts and In the Celtic Past. She wrote the ballads Roddy McCorley and The Passing of the Gael. She is buried with Seamus MacManus  in County Donegal.
