Abraham Colles 1773-1843

Born in Kilkenny. He studied medicine and graduated from Trinity. He was appointed President of the Royal College of Surgeons when he was only twenty-nine years old. He was a very eminent surgeon and is remembered to this day in the Colles fracture which results from falling on the palm of the hand. Colles Law describes the effects of syphilis on children. He donated his body to medical science and he was given a public funeral. He is buried in Dublin.
