John Broderick 1927-1989

Born in Athlone, County Westmeath. He ran the prosperous family bakery in Athlone for a number of years, which gave him financial independence. He wrote eleven books as well as book reviews and criticism. He lived out his final years in Bath where he died. His works include The Pilgrimage, The Fugitives, The Waking of Willie Ryan, An Apology for Roses, The Trial of Father Dillingham and London Irish. He is buried in Athlone.
