Teresa Brayton 1866-1943

Born in Kilbrook, near Kilcock, County Kildare. She was a teacher before she went to America where she became involved with the Irish Republican Brotherhood. She was a poet whose works include The Flame of Ireland, Song of the Dawn and Christmas Verses. Her most famous poem was The Old Bog Road which was put to music and became one of the best known of Irish songs. She is buried in County Kildare.
