Canon Ulick Bourke Born in Castlebar, County Mayo. After ordination he taught at St Jarlath’s, Tuam and then he became parish priest in Kilcolman, Claremorris where he remained until his death. He was one of the most active promoters of the Irish language. He was one of the founders of the Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language and also of the Gaelic Union. His works include The College Irish Grammar (published while he was still a student), The Aryan Origins of the Gaelic Race and Language and Pre-Christian Ireland. He is buried in County Mayo.
