Helen Blackburn 1842-1903

Born in Valentia Island, County Kerry. She was one of the first to campaign for women’s rights. She was secretary of The National Society for Women’s Suffrage 1874-1895. Her many works include A Handbook for Women Engaged in Social and Political Work and A Record of the Women’s Suffrage Movement in the British Isles with blackburn helen2.jpg (35054 bytes)Biographical Sketches of Miss Becker. In 1899 she co-founded the Freedom of Labour Defence League. She is buried in London.
