Francis Joseph Bigger 1863-1926

Born in Belfast. His main interests were archaeology and local history and at his own expense he helped restore many ruined castles and churches. He revived the Ulster Journal of Archaeology and was its editor until his death. His works on history, biography and memoirs include, The Ulster Land War of 1770, The Northern Leaders of  98, Irish Penal Crosses and biographies of William Orr and Amyas Griffiths. He donated his large collection of Irish books to the Belfast Central Library. He is buried in Mallusk, County Antrim.
