Alfie Byrne 1882-1956 Born in Dublin. He was Lord Mayor of Dublin for nine years 1930-1939 and again 1954-5. He was also an Independent T.D. for nearly thirty years. He was created a Grand Knight of the Cross of St Sylvester in 1951. He had many detractors but was popular with the poor. The streets were thronged for his funeral. He is buried in Dublin.
